10 Years :: 10 Questions

So I figure since I'm getting back into blogging I can join in on some of the wow-blogosphere fun. Alternative Chat posed a set of questions to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the game. So here's my answers. :)
Why did you start playing Warcraft?

A very long time ago when I was a brand spanking new adult I moved in with my boyfriend. He played Everquest for a few years and I had a beastlord Vah Shir with hot pink dyed armor. So I dabbled in MMO's a little bit. When WoW rolled out we decided to try it together. He built me a new computer and away we went on leveling together.

What was the first ever character you rolled?
A Night Elf Druid. Which I have revisited many times in the past ten years. She is currently my main again. :)

Which factors determined your faction choice in game?
Originally I picked alliance because that's who the boyfriend picked and I wanted to play with him and some of his EQ buddies. However when BC came out I switched to horde for a change of scenery. I played horde up until Pandaria and went back Alliance for the same reason. I just wanted a change.

What has been your most memorable moment in Warcraft and why?It would probably be my hunter bow quest. My hunter was my alt in Molten Core and I had to wait until every other hunter main in the guild got their leaf before I could join to get mine. And it was the most epic and challenging thing I've done in the game. Well aside from the Warlock Green Fire quest... which sucks balls and may be another one of those "hardest thing ever" events.

What is your favorite aspect of the game and has this always been the case?
Being able to play the game the way you want to play it. Although when I was raiding it was very "this is the spec you need and this is what you need to do in raid". But I've found I can always change my class or change guilds. I never found it very hard to get into a progression guild, or a pvp one for that matter.

Do you have an area in game that you always return to?
I always return to a healer. I've played almost everything. But I always come back to my priest or my druid for healing. I just am better at it and enjoy it more than tunnel vision on a dps toon. You see more of what is going on when you're watching for the next incoming damage.

How long have you /played and has that been continuous?
I logged into all of my 90 toons today to check the /played. And it was both sad and impressive when I calculated it up. I've played 363 Days and 16 Hours, mind you that's just my 90s. But that was not all continuous. I have taken breaks from the game, the longest being the major part of a year.

Admit it: do you read quest text or not?
It depends if I have done the quest before. ;) For new content I always read them, but of course don't when I am leveling alts unless it's something new.

Are there any regrets from your time in game?
Of course. I feel like I could dedicate more time to my kids than running RBGs which has been a determining factor as of late about logging in. I've cut back to give them more of my time in the evenings.

What effect has Warcraft had on your life outside gaming?
I have made some good friends that I stay in contact with over the years and it sometimes influences my art. :)

    Obnoxious Raiders

Okay, the title sounds like I'm going to harp on raiders, but I'm not. I use to be one. What I am going to harp on is the obnoxious entitled raiders.

My little band of misfits was doing Dragon Soul last night and we needed one more dps to help us burn down Ultraxion. So we ask my sister's boyfriend. He brings his weasel of a brother along with him. And we murder Ultraxion like no body's business. Awesome. On we go to Deathwing's Spine. Yeah, that fight.
They screw up and keep killing shit they shouldn't. Much like when I helped them get their Ulduar achievements that had to take multiple lock-outs because of arrogance and not listening to directions. Somehow my possible brother-in-law is heroic geared. I have no idea how as he follows directions poorly. Then again...
    He's a hunter.
So I get angry and say "I thought you guys were raiders, pay attention," (mind you it was a lot more hateful in actuality) because they keep killing the damn shit before it can get 9 stacks. I left without finishing because that was frustrating.
So step back to when they entered and weasel brother, who talks over everyone because he's obnoxious, joins. He links his legendary cloak. Ohhh whoop-de-doo. So I linked my two Vicious Mounts in jest. At some point he told my sister, "This is so much harder to get."
Are you freaking kidding me? Your quest item you can get doing LFR raids is harder to get than my RBG wins?
It was also tossed about that we couldn't defeat the spine fight because I was healing in PVP gear. Um... I'm 550 pvp gear, I am still far more geared than the level 85s that did this raid before and probably far more skilled of a healer than the ones who healed this scripted fight.
I DO have to combat player intelligence compared to... I dunno... timed damage and events in raids?
Not to knock raid healers, I know you guys are damn good, but there is a huge difference in healing a scripted raid fight and healing in PVP. I raided for years, and did progression, but I never had to work so hard to heal someone as I do in pvp.
Point aside, they blamed the failures on me for having pvp gear and not being omg-heroic geared... for old content. Instead of... not following mechanics.

So... screw those guys. I hope they never ask for pvp carries. Not gonna happen.

    RBGs Suck.

No they don't really suck, but waiting around for the right comp sucks. I've sat here for an hour waiting to go.
    Sigh.
